Due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the last few years, 2020 and 2021, cannot be directly compared with previous years. Instead, it can be assumed that we will see a different trend from 2022 onwards and that we will have to prepare for more attempted burglaries.
According to police crime statistics (PKS), a total of 149 crimes related to residential burglary were recorded in the Mainz and Mainz-Bingen district in 2021, which is again significantly less than in the previous year 2020, when a total of 257 crimes were recorded.

However, there is also some less encouraging news: the clearance rate for these crimes has fallen again. Compared to 2019, when the rate was 23.9%, it is only 12.1% in 2021.
The proportion of attempted burglaries in the Mainz, Worms and Bad Kreuznach area rose to a long-term high of 57.2% in 2021. It can be assumed that, among other things, better security mechanisms at the properties targeted are having an effect (see table).
